Hotel de Nell

Hotel de Nell is in a quiet neighbourhood of the 9th arrondissement of Paris. It is a pretty hotel as expected from the Design Hotels. The airy rooms let in light from the large windows, the furniture is minimalist with references to Japanese aesthetics as the big Japanese tub –big enough for two 😉 – would indicate. There are plush white towel dressing gowns and slippers to match with luxury shower gels. It was the first hotel I had been to where the toilet is separate from the bathroom and shower, a feature I have noticed time again since, that has its advantages but lacks a certain discretion… The large beds are very comfortable and should come with a warning for potential to nap the day away. There is a cosy bar area to have a drink but having been there twice (Spring 2014 and Feb 2016) , I have found the food at the hotel’s bistro to be disappointing, and I couldn’t finish it last time. Asking the staff for a restaurant recommendation will lead to empty pockets. Overall it’s a nice place to stay, with a certain romantic charm, but next time we’ll try something different in an edgier location.
