We visited Ninth in Fitzrovia on a sunny afternoon, and it was brimming with relaxed customers enjoying the selection of fine wines by the glass and plates to share.
We begun with delicious fresh oysters with crispy onion garnish.
Razor clam ceviche served in its shell with bright tomatoes, and a miso-flavoured marinade was revelationary (in the sense that MD’s version has a permanent place in our appetiser repertoire).
Seabass carpaccio with salsa verde was well-executed but could have done with a kick. Compared to the other dishes, this one I could have skipped
Succulent tender Iberico pork topped with a herby- chimichurri style sauce was served with fried chickpeas. The last morsels of this were fought over…
As if we didn’t have enough food, we ordered broccoli with anchovy dressing as a vegetable side, which is something I’d like to try again at home.
And finally the pièce de résistance, salted ox cheeks that fall apart in your mouth with warm slices of bone marrow and a richly flavoured broth. I would go back tomorrow just for this dish.
